Support the Next Generation
We all need support and spiritual companionship on the journey of ministry - both as we discern, and as we practice our vocations. Those discerning a call to the Order of Deacons need the support and guidance of members of the Order at every stage of the journey.
Ways to Get Involved
Become a Mentor
Deacon candidates benefit the most from Deacon mentors, but not enough Deacons are available as mentors.
Zoom and other remote meeting options mean that geography is no longer a barrier.
If you want to make a big difference for those discerning a call:
-
Complete mentor training
-
Make sure your DS and/or the cabinet knows you are available and willing to mentor
Be a Reader
Candidates may or may not have Deacons as mentors, and their mentors may or may not be readily available as they prepare for interviews. Each can benefit from the Order's collective wisdom through members who are willing to read and provide feedback on drafts of their paperwork.
No special qualifications are needed to help in this way - anyone who is not on BOM or the individual candidate's dCOM is especially beneficial. If you are willing to help with feedback, please let us know!
Be Available to Serve
Every year, the Conference Committee on Nominations and Leadership invites those who are interested in serving in any facet of Conference leadership to submit a form to that effect. Use this annual opportunity to indicate your willingness to serve on a district or conference committee.
Also keep an eye on who is serving on your dCOM and BOM. If your dCOM does not include appropriate Deacon representation, bring that to the attention of your DS, and offer to serve if you are able.
